Week 904

James is on leave in the Isles of Scilly. It’s been on my list to visit for quite a few years but I’m sadly yet to make it. Keeping everything crossed the weather is kind while James is there ☀️ .

Chris and I spent the week working on the Manage Vaccinations in Schools project (Mavis). Our focus continues to be on performance but I also spent a while trying to get a handle on our end to end tests. They’ve become increasingly flakey over the past few weeks and I think there’s a risk that we end up ignoring them if we can’t trust the results. As a team we’ve also been dealing with the fallout of the repos being made private, including but not limited to:

  • CI breaking because of permission issues
  • CI runners being smaller for private projects and therefore jobs taking longer to run
  • Release notes not being public
  • Team members losing visibility of the repos

We spent an enjoyable day in the Good Machine office on Wednesday.

Until next time.

– Chris
